Ultra Geeky

I was just on digg where I found an "10 Stunning *Ultra-Geeky* Home Cinemas.  Shit is crazy!  I can't wait to get my own place and make my home theater look like the Batcave.  Which one do you like?

as time goes by there seems to be a growing trend amongst those people lucky enough to afford it / mental enough to spend all available cash on it: home cinemas. huge screens, incredible sound systems and luxurious seats are popping up in seemingly spare rooms and basements larger than my entire flat.

however this is also giving a few movie geeks a real chance to shine and it seems they’re not content with a simple in-home movie theatre decent enough to hold a premiere in - they clearly want to be fully immersed in the worlds created by their favourite films.

so, in no particular order, here are 10 of the best themed home cinemas on earth…

1. indiana jones cinema

this amazing indy-themed room was designed by home theatre expert doug charrois for larry and colleen halliday in canada. the room even features ‘replicas of the holy grail, a jacket, hat, whips, torches and more—including the idol from the opening of the original movie’.

more info here.

2. the batcave

above is possibly the sleekest home theatre i’ve ever seen. it was created by canadian-based experts ‘elite home theater seating’, who, as the name suggests, specialize in hand-made, custom home theater furniture for ‘high-end’ clientele. and bruce wayne.

more info here.

3. the enterprise ncc-1701d cinema

based on starship enterprise ncc-1701d, this stunner consists of a cinema, bar area and apparently ‘one of the largest kaleidoscope hard-drive based storage systems (..) in a residential installation. at last count, there were eight servers with 3,816 dvds’. there’s even a red alert button which brings on red flashing lights and appropriately tense music.

more info here.

4. the bridge

trekkie gary reighn decided to cut out the middle man and design & build his home cinema himself on a relatively small budget of $15′000. his basement was cleared to make way for the creation and from start to finish took 2 years.

more info here.

5. evergreen ultimate theater

apparently ‘one of the most technically and structurally advanced private theaters in the united states’, this phenomenal star trek home cinema even contains motorised sliding doors, as requested by the unbelievably rich client who paid around $3′000′000 in total for the transformation.

more info here.

6. titanic

the ceiling dome in this titanic themed set-up contains 1′230 fiber optic light strands in order to provide the artificial night sky and entry to the luxurious bar next door can be found behind a motorised bookcase. the whole project was designed by donny hackett of ‘casa cinema design’.

more info here.

7. the death star

it doesn’t get much cooler than this. the 10-seat death star home cinema was designed for vic wertz and lisa stevens and includes, amongst other things: automatic doors, a twinkling fiber optic star field and a thx sound system. the best fact? the room was designed by doug chiang, lead designer on episodes I & II.

more info here:

8. the nautilus

this beauty was built as a result of film geek randy moran’s love of the nautilus submarine from the film 20′000 leagues under the sea. he hired ‘dillon works inc’ to build and fabricate all the trusses, wall panels, screen frames, and portholes and ‘acoustic innovations’ to supply the plush red seating.

more info here.

9. the pirate cove

the pirate cove was created as a result of avs forum user pkonold’s love of the pirates of the carribean disney ride and movies. to make the atmosphere as authentic as possible he and his wife ensured that when seated ‘you feel like you are floating down “the bayou” at night. to accomplish this we have built a star field in the ceiling, complete with real constellations and shooting stars!’.

more info here.

10. the sci-fi cinema

ok, so the screen isn’t the biggest and the seats are slightly lacking but inside dr. david winn’s home cinema can be found: a hydraulic alien bursting through the wall, a talking robbie the robot and both the predator and the creature from the black lagoon behind bars. the cinema, including all collectibles, cost approximately $100′000.

ASR Kick Off

Yesterday I worked at the PQ Workshop with Freddy for 4 hours.  It was super chill.  We had a few people come through but for the most part it was slow because of the rain.  I spent most of my time responding to emails, chatting, myspacing, and just chillin'!
If you ever come through to the PQ Workshop you should challenge Freddy or TJ... They're both pretty good!
Although I was suppose to be working, I spent most of my time shopping for myself.  I ended up spending almost $300 (MSRP), but luckily for me I get an employee discount!  HAHA  Its like a trick.  They ask me to work knowing I'll end up spending money shopping!  FYI: I think I'm Willy's Workshop's No. 1 customer.

Today is the first day of ASR and Agenda.  I'm excited to see all the new gear coming out next season.  I'm basically accompanying Ollie as he meets with all the different brands.  I'll be hanging out and networking.  I'll be in Downtown all day roaming the streets so if you're in the area hit me up.  I'm gonna try to get sponsored by 10 Deep.

ASR after party tonight at Belo ft. Talib Tweli.  Might also hit up the Crooks 'n Castle party at Jade too.  Who's down?

This Sunday is Lambda Theta Delta's VIBE XIII at UCI.  I can't believe they're already on VIBE XIII, I remember performing at VIBE VIII with Formality in 2003.  VIBE marks the beginning of the competitive season so many teams debut their new sets.  I've been pretty disconnected from the dance scene but I love going to these competitions and seeing all the familiar faces.

I miss dancing and performing... =(  Maybe I should make a come back in 2008!  HAHA

Anyways, who's down to go this Sunday to UCI?

YEAH!  Who's ready for some Christina Aguilera Dirrty?
Yes, that really is me with ass less chaps!  WTF was I thinking!  HAHA I'd do it again!
We won 2nd place that year!
That was my last performance with Formality before I joined UrbanFX.
Damn... That was 5 years ago!

Anyways, KJ Gonzalez will be teaching Boogie Zone Community Class this Thursday, January 24th at Hype! in Torrance.  Go support him because not only is he extremely gifted, but he's a Wildboy!
KJ Gonzales has quite a reputation in the dance community as a dancer and choreographer with the swiftest moves. His style is something to be seen and you can be sure you have seen his choreography on countless dance teams and companies. KJ is the past director of Urban FX and currently dances and choreographs for Super Galactic Beat Manipulators. Professionally, KJ has danced for 3LW and performed for huge concerts with the Cheetah Girls. Do not miss this class, its going to be amazing as usual!

Heath Ledger RIP

The tragic news of Heath Ledger's sudden death at the young age of 28 was saddening today.  He was an incredible young actor with so much potential.
When I first heard that Heath Ledger was going to play the Joker in The Dark Knight, I was hesitant but after seeing the trailers and a preview of his portrayal of this sinister villain, I was convinced.  I can't wait to see Heath Ledger as the Joker.

Pay the cost to be the BOSE!

Everyone has different techniques to clear their mind.  Many people do physical activities like going to the gym, participate in yoga, or even mediate.  I like to clear my mind by going shopping!  HAHA It's true!  I always feel better after buying something!

Today I visited Best Buy with the intention of just getting a new iPod cassette adapter for my car ($20), but ended up leaving with the newly redesigned Bose in-ear headphones ($100).  I've been thinking about getting these headphones for a while because they'd be perfect for bike rides or hittin' the gym.  Today I was like fuck it!  Just do it!
I'm a huge Bose fan!  I already have the Bose On-Ear Headphones, which sounds incredible.  But they a bit too big for the gym and plus they make my ears sweaty when I run.  Who wants sweaty ears?
I definitely recommend both these Bose headphones to everyone!  Although they are a bit pricey, they are both well worth it!  The sound is extraordinary and you'll love it!

Happy Birthday to the American civil rights movement leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr!
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

"I submit to you that if a man hasn't discovered something he will die for, he isn't fit to live."

"Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.'

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

Thanks to the San Diego Chargers for a wonderful football season!  Although we were only one win away from the Super Bowl, we defied the odds after starting 1-3, made the playoffs, beat the dominate Colts at their home, and gave a the undefeated Patriots a run for their money.
THANK YOU!  See you next season!

Road Trip

Every time Jaycee (21XL | Power 106) and Twee aka Sister (Cockstar Army) are down in SD they always try to get us to go up to LA and party with them.  Since Leo's leaving for boot camp in 2 weeks we decided to take them up on their offer.

Destination: Tatou in Downtown LA

We first stopped by UCLA to meet up with Anna and met some random as strangers... Leo is already having the time of his life!
Tatou was crackin'!  21XL's very own Jon Magic was spinnin' too!
Leo and the Viets, Twee & Kimtan!
Thanks to Jaycee and the crew for the bottles of champagne and vodka.
I haven't seen Mac (UFX Alumni) in over 2 years and he just happens to stop by my house randomly and ends up in LA with us!  HAHA
UCLA Bruins... BOO!
He's leaving in a week... SAD FACE!
JC x TK = Brothers!
It was nice to get away from the SD scene for a minute and be taken care of for a change.  Thanks for all the hospitality!  Best part of the night was getting "Dirty Dogs", aka bacon wrapped hot dogs after the club... Actually let me rephrase that, stealing "Dirty Dogs".  HAHA

Didn't get back home until 5:30AM, which isn't bad considering I usually sleep at 5AM anyways.

Don't forget Leo's Bon Voyage party this Friday at Deco's!

Memory Lane

Thursday night we had a meeting at my house for our upcoming February 19th - February 27th invasion of New York.  It'll be our second trip to the Big Apple in 3 years.  I'm excited to get away!

Ended up staying in that night and taking a trip down memory lane.  Back in the day, I use to have poster boards covering my walls with pictures from Freshmen and Sophomore year in High School.  After looking through some of those old school pictures, I wonder what I was thinking at the time.  Geez, how come no one told me I looked ridiculous with bangs and a tail or hair ties in my hair.  HAHA
We even busted out old year books and started reading what people wrote.  For some reason Rose aka Best Friend wrote the funniest stuff every year!  So nice!
MCHS Class of 2001.
I'll post one of Rose's classic year book entries soon.  I'm too lazy right now!
